Buchon ‘Yellow 10’ joins Aerial Collective
Tailchase experiences now available with Aerial Collective
“It’s a dance of sorts, set among a theatre of cloud and sky. Sweeping and rolling through the sunlit silence, two solo acts entwined simultaneously into perfect harmony as they act out a meeting of old foes.”
Over the years, our beloved Hispano Buchón ‘Yellow 10’ (G-AWHK) has played the part of its German counterpart, the Messerschmitt 109, at air shows around the world and in a number of film and television productions. It’s worn a host of different schemes and even had a smoke system fitted for a more recent role as the Bf 109E in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (2017). All this has prepared it perfectly for probably it’s most exciting role to date… This season, it is joining the Aerial Collective fleet to play the part of the Bf 109 once again, only this time, it won’t be simply for the tv screens, but as part of a truly immersive aerial experience exclusive to Aerial Collective at Duxford.
This experience is one of the most immersive yet, and can be catered to experienced flyers or newer adventurers, as you get to feel first hand what it would have been like for a young Spitfire, Hurricane or Mustang pilot to be bounced by a 109 whilst on patrol out of the former RAF Duxford Airfield.
The Buchón was built in 1959 by Seville-based Hispano Aviacion, and saw service with the Spanish Air Force. Once retired, ‘Yellow 10’ was one of 26 examples auctioned and then subsequently purchased by Spitfire Productions for the 1969 epic The Battle of Britain. Often referred to as a ‘Spanish-built Messerschmitt Bf109’, the story of the Buchon can be traced back to the middle of the Second World War.
So before your next solo or formation Spitfire or Mustang aerial adventure with us, spend some time reading through your aircraft recognition cards, and once in the air, keep a watchful eye on the horizon…
